Welcome

...like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house... acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5)

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Paving our Way to the Future paver project at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary - Saint Stephen Roman Catholic Parish. We hope that our website highlights the project, its goals, and our plans for the future. Please feel free to read more about The Pavers to the Future Project on this site, or come in to visit our church. We would love to greet you and share our rich history, our love for Jesus Christ and our appreciation for you, our neighbor, our congregants, and extended parish family.

History

We believe that the path to our future is built upon the rich history of our past. Since 1866, the parish of Saint Stephen and later in 1882, the parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary has welcomed many ethnic populations, from the immigrants of Ireland and Italy, to the diversity we find flourishing in our parish today. Once home to Mother Cabrini, the people of South Brooklyn, Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus , and Cobble Hill have always  found the doors of salvation open. Today, new generations of "lightkeepers" continue this proud tradition.

From the works of charity of our parishioners and extend parish family to welcoming ALL into the love of our Saviour, we feel that we are following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ for the past 173 years. With your help and God's Mercy, the tradition will continue for another 173 years.

Paving the Way to Our Future

Two years in the planning, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary - St. Stephen is proud to present Phase I of this project. The newly named Garden of the Immactulate Heart of Mary, located on the South West corner of the church facade is the chosen site. It is in this location that parishioners, both from the past and present may become integrated into the "spiritual house" of our parish. The pavers, available in three sizes, will be the "living stones" of our historical memory for generations to come.

And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates...

(Deuteronomy 11:20)

Pavers, Phase I

There are three sizes, at three price points for the parish and extended parish. Each paver will be individually engraved, filled with black epoxy and sealed with clear sealant to ensure its longevity for decades to come.
